Women’s Leadership Society Luncheon
Oklahoma City, OK – Dr. Jamie C. Polk, Oklahoma City Public Schools superintendent, joined United Way of Central Oklahoma’s (UWCO) President & CEO Rachel C. Holt on Sept. 18 for an on-stage chat at UWCO’s 12th Annual Women’s Leadership Society (WLS) recruitment luncheon with over 200 women in attendance. Dr. Polk shared insight into her background, her leadership in the district, as well as what transformative change means to her.
This year, UWCO’s WLS affinity group has embraced the concept of “Women United,” an initiative many United Way female groups across the nation have adopted. WLS members have been exploring what local health and human services issue(s) they want to support in the greater Oklahoma City community and how they can work together to create positive change.
“Our WLS is an amazing opportunity for women to connect and get involved,” Holt said. “The future is female, and as we have seen with this group, women are the driving force of local philanthropy and leadership.”
Conversations with featured speakers like Dr. Polk at WLS events throughout the year have provided insight into local issues that UWCO Partner Agencies work to address and more. WLS is co-chaired by Lori Wharton and Kathy L. Williams.
WLS unites women – their time, talents and resources – into a powerful network of individuals devoted to enhancing and strengthening the community through intergenerational opportunities. With an annual donation of $2,500 or more, these community-minded women leverage the collective power of women supporting UWCO for the well-being of the community.
