An important objective of United Way is to get young people involved in the community through volunteerism and philanthropy at an early age. United WaYouth gives local highschool students the chance to do just that.

Traditionally, United Way campaigns are organized in a work place setting. Through S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Action and Responsibility) teens are able to get involved by running a school campaign.

Members of the United WaYouth Student Advisory Committee decide where the money raised in their schools is distributed. They participate in a volunteer panel to ensure that student contributions go directly to programs that help children, teens, and their families.

S.T.A.R. was created in 1997 with the objective to get young people involved in the community through volunteerism and philanthropy at an early age. The S.T.A.R. program gives local highschool students the opportunity to raise money and select the charities that receive donations.
